March 2016 - Quebecois House Concert, Square Dance with T Claw, and Contra Dance

Tuesday, March 8 Quebecois Workshop and Concert

On Tuesday, March 8th at 7:30pm, the Quimper Grange will present another in its series of traditional music house concerts. In addition, there will be a workshop prior to the evening concert at 3:30 PM Read on!

Le Bruit Court Dans La Ville. Andre Marchand, Normand Miron, and Lisa Ornstein will be doing a 3:30-5pm band-lab style workshop. They’ll teach 2-3 tunes and leave some time for a bit of jamming and friendly conversation. $15 gets you in. All acoustic instruments welcome (fiddle, guitar, accordion, sax, clarinet, flute, mandolin, banjo, concertina).

The concert, starting at 7:30, will feature music from Quebec with the band Le Bruit Court Dans La Ville (The Buzz Around Town). Quebecois music is lively, joyous and emotionally charged and the members of Le Bruit are all legends of Quebec’s traditional music scene. The band members are, Lisa Ornstein (fiddle), Andre Marchand (guitar/ vocals), and Normand Miron (accordion/vocals). Lisa and Andre first met as bandmates in La Bottine Souriante, the iconic traditional music super group which kickstarted Quebec’s folk music revival. Normand is a marvelous singer and accordionist who grew up surrounded by family musicians in Lanaudière, the epicenter of Quebec’s folk scene. As a trio, Le Bruit Court Dans La Ville’s music is deeply-rooted, innovative, nuanced, and spontaneous. André’s meticulous accompaniment and gorgeous vocals complement Normand’s pulsing accordion, grit-andpolish vocals and irrepressible spirit, while Lisa’s fiddle combines soaring harmonies with fiery tunes learned over years of kitchen visits with old masters. The members of Le Bruit have been on staff at the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes here in Port Townsend numerous times and are skilled teachers as well as performers. Along with their concert, they will be hosting a band-lab style Quebecois music workshop. They’’ll teach 2 or 3 tunes and leave some time for jamming and friendly conversation. The workshop will be held at the Quimper Grange hall 3:30 - 5:00 on the afternoon before their evening concert. The workshop is open to all acoustic instruments (fiddle, guitar, accordion, concertina, flute, mandolin, banjo, clarinet, etc.).
