February 2016 - Alex MacLeod calls squares for Wild Phil

Old Time Jam Hosted by Len Feldman on February 3
Len Feldman

Concertina player Len Feldman will lead this month’s Old Time jam.  A recent arrival in Port Townsend from Haines Alaska, Len's repertoire includes often-played tunes as well as a smattering of unusual and interesting tunes rarely heard in these parts.  The tune he will teach at the beginning of the jam is an A modal tune, Clinch Mountain Backstep.  We will be playing in A in a couple of tunings. All abilities are welcome.
We request a $1-2 donation to help pay for heat.

February 20th - Devils Club

The Devils Club Darlin's have been playing music for nearly 2 centuries, all told, and have collected contra tunes from the mountains, lakes, rivers, and streams all across the USA, but they promise not to bring any real Devil’s Club to the dance. So kick up your heels and swing your partner; lots of energy and laughs to go around with Laurel Bliss, fiddle; John Clark, Banjo; John Hatton, Guitar & Banjo Uke; Howie Meltzer, Fiddle. Joe Micheals has been calling contras as well as squares in the PNW since 1982 and lists his main goal as introducing the joy of traditional dance and making it accessible to as many as possible. The dance will start at 7:30 and end about10:30. $6.00 fee, $3.00 for those 18 to 3 years, free for under 3. The Quimper Grange is located at 1219 Corona St., in Port Townsend.
